Are you new to the world of landscape and Nature photography and looking for a confident start to your journey?

Perhaps you’ve just bought your first proper camera and feel overwhelmed by all the buttons, dials, and settings. Maybe you’ve been shooting in automatic mode for a while and are ready to take full creative control, but don’t know where to begin. Or perhaps you possess a deep love and reverence for the spirit of Nature, and feel a calling to share its beauty with the people closest to you — but your photographs never quite represent what you see and feel.

If you’re nodding along, then this immersive practical Nature photography workshop at the magnificent Woodhill Park Estate on 16th May 2026 is for you.

This is where your transformative creative journey begins.

A man with light-colored eyes, a beard, and mustache, wearing a brown hat and a tan jacket, sitting outdoors near a tree with branches and grass in the background during sunset or early evening.

I’m Brad Carr, and eight years ago, I was in a similar place to you. I discovered my curiosity for the art of photography, having picked up a DSLR camera for the first time. All of my photographs were black, white, completely blurry, or lacking that magical something. I turned to the Internet to ask the question: why? And so began a transformative journey of self-discovery into the world of Nature and the art of photography.

My photographs of Wales’ ancient woodlands, serene mountain lakes, and timeless landscapes have now been featured in leading photography publications, including On Landscape, Outdoor Photography, International Therapist, and Nature Vision. My debut exhibition, Finding Light, was viewed by an estimated 20,000 people at Plas Glyn y Weddw, one of Wales’ oldest and most prestigious galleries, in 2025.

Now I host workshops and retreats, educating and empowering others on their journeys towards creative awakening. Through all of my learning experiences, I will strive to meet you wherever you are, listening intently to your needs from the moment we connect. I will find ways to help you in whatever way I can on your creative journey, and I always maintain a warm, patient, and down-to-earth approach to teaching, ensuring a memorable experience for all attendees.

A Previous Workshop Review:

I was a little apprehensive beforehand: going on my own, feeling out of practice, and knowing my camera skills aren’t exactly great. But I needn’t have worried. Brad’s patience, kindness, and skill put me at ease straight away. I loved the encouragement to be present in nature, to really take in where we were and what was around us, to notice what we’re drawn to and give it a story. It was a gorgeous day spent with a group of kind, generous women in beautiful surroundings. I came home feeling calmer, refreshed, and full of positive energy. It was so good to step away, slow down, and reconnect with my photography. I’m excited to continue my journey. I highly recommend a workshop with Brad.

How do I Know if I’m Ready for this Workshop?

If you can answer ‘‘yes’’ to any of these, you’re ready:

  • You’ve just bought a camera and feel overwhelmed by its settings and features

  • You’ve been shooting in automatic but want more control

  • You understand your camera is capable of more, but you don’t know how to access it

  • You love being in Nature and want to translate what you see to share with those you love

  • You’re curious about photography but don’t know where to start

A Previous Workshop Review:

‘‘I enjoyed how relaxed the atmosphere was. I enjoyed the laughs we had and how nice everyone was. I enjoyed that everything was backed up with practice; no dry learning with theory only. I liked that you gave us some tips based on your experience and your photography style. I liked that we all received some 1-1 time, that you helped us figure out how to use our cameras, provided feedback, and set challenges. I liked that all questions were answered and none were treated as dumb questions. I also appreciated the honesty and the fact that you didn’t try to pretend to be someone else and that you weren’t afraid to admit when you didn't know something or didn’t know an answer to a question.’’

A Gentle Introduction to Photography

Learn Without Overwhelm

Join me for an empowering, curiosity-filled day of exploration and discovery on the Mid Wales/Shropshire border as we learn the fundamentals of photography and connect with nature in a safe, supportive environment.

During this immersive creative experience, you will familiarise yourself with your camera and learn to simplify its complex settings. Once you have got to grips with the basics, you’ll venture outdoors with new eyes, exploring the landscape with renewed curiosity and child-like wonder.

A Safe Space for Learning

There are no ‘failures’ along the creative path; only lessons. Each photograph is another brick in the wall of what might, one day, become your kingdom. I strive to create a container for child-like curiosity, experimentation, imagination, and wonder during workshops. This is more than a workshop; it’s a safe space for the expression of your full being.

I understand that cameras can feel intimidating at first. Trust me, we’ve all been there, staring at our camera manual at 2 am, wondering what on earth ‘‘aperture priority’’ means! My approach is patient, warm, and down-to-earth. I’ll meet you exactly where you are, with no judgment, no silly questions, and plenty of encouragement.

About the Location: Woodhill Park Estate

Nestled in the breathtaking Shropshire countryside, Woodhill Park is a Grade II-listed 156-acre estate that intertwines a rich heritage with a focus on wellbeing, sustainability, and community.

The estate provides the perfect setting for your introduction to the art of Nature photography, featuring a private woodland with ancient trees and a rich understory, as well as vibrant flowers and stunning vistas of the surrounding countryside.

The flat terrain makes it accessible for all fitness levels, allowing you to focus on learning rather than exhausting hikes. The variety of subjects — from intimate woodland scenes to wider landscapes — ensures you’ll have plenty of opportunities to practice your new skills throughout the day.

What Makes This Workshop Different?

Practical Learning, Not Boring Lectures

This workshop blends light theoretical information with practical, hands-on learning to maximise the impact of this foundational photography experience. I don’t want to spend the morning talking at you, sending you to sleep with another PowerPoint. Instead, we’ll spend just enough time indoors to understand the basics, then head outdoors to put everything into practice immediately.

Learning is best done through action and experimentation, not memorising rules from a textbook. You’ll be given plenty of time and freedom to explore, make mistakes, and discover what works, all with gentle guidance and support from me whenever you need it.

More Than Just Camera Settings

As well as familiarising yourself with your camera, you will also be encouraged to explore your own connection with Mother Nature through thought-provoking conversation. We’ll look at how the camera can help to deepen this connection whilst providing you with a further sense of purpose and belonging here on Earth.

Photography can be so much more than just a hobby. For me, it has been a form of therapy; it has deepened my self-awareness and helped me connect with the landscape in profound and life-changing ways. I hope that by attending this workshop with me, you will be inspired to walk along a similar path and further awaken to the beauty of Mother Nature.

A Warm, Supportive Atmosphere

I am a caring, understanding, and patient person. I take my time and communicate in such a way that reaches all levels and abilities. I’ll never make you feel silly for asking questions; in fact, I actively encourage them! The best learning happens when you’re comfortable, relaxed, open, and enjoying yourself.

‘‘I attended a photography workshop with Brad in some beautiful woodland in Mid Wales. We met just in time to catch the prettiest sunrise. I’m a novice & nearly always shoot with my DSLR in a manual setting. Brad helped me to understand my camera’s various features; his explanations were clear & easy to understand. Throughout the lesson, he was approachable & attentive. I don’t have an expensive camera, but I’m really happy with the shots I came away with. It’s opened my eyes to what I can achieve with it & I’m looking forward to putting some of my newfound knowledge into practice. If you want to discover or develop your photography in a friendly & relaxed environment, I can thoroughly recommend Brad & his workshop.’’

‘‘What a fantastic morning we had! When I first heard the workshop was an hour away from home, starting at 5.30 am, I was a bit unsure, but by god was it worth it. Brad sure knows his stuff, and you can tell how enthusiastic he is about photography and trees. The whole morning was laid back, none of this talking at you and expecting you to remember things. Brad was very patient, took time with each of us individually, and has a knack for explaining things in simple terms that we can all understand. All in all, a fantastic morning. Thank you, Brad.’’
