There is something truly humbling about standing beneath ancient mountains where giants once roamed, surrounded by serene lakes and misty woodlands, whilst waiting for the perfect moment to create a memorable landscape photograph with a story.
Eryri (Snowdonia) has a raw, wild, and untamable nature that connects you to something deeper—something numinous, even. It is no wonder artists, writers, and mystics have been visiting these lands in search of inspiration since the dawn of time.
I have roamed this sacred landscape for seven years, scouring (almost) every inch of it in search of stories, connection, belonging, and parts of myself. My creative journey resulted in a solo exhibition, Finding Light, in Plas Glyn y Weddw, a prestigious Welsh gallery, and the prerelease of my debut photobook of the same name.
Now, I have poured my heart into crafting a five-day immersive photography learning experience with a difference; one that will help you create photographs with intention, depth, and personal meaning. This isn’t just a landscape photography workshop; it is a journey into the depths of your internal landscape where you will learn how to translate your thoughts and feelings into powerful, emotionally-rich, and compelling stories of your own.
During this transformative photography retreat in Snowdonia, you will discover the most spectacular locations that the landscape has to offer. From lesser-known, intimate corners of ancient forests, to epic vistas overlooking legendary mountains like Tryfan, Cnicht (aka ‘The Welsh Matterhorn’), and of course, Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) herself. You are guaranteed to come away with some special memories and photographs that will live long in your portfolio.
My photographs of this beautiful, sacred landscape have featured in prestigious magazines such as On Landscape & Outdoor Photography and an up-and-coming digital publication, Nature Vision Magazine. It would be my deepest honour to share my knowledge of the landscape and lens to help you create photographs like these for yourself.
About Me, Brad Carr
I'm Brad Carr, an internationally published fine art landscape photographer, writer, and creative mentor based in Wales.
My photographs of Wales’ ancient woodlands, serene mountain lakes, and timeless landscapes have been featured in leading photography publications, including On Landscape, Outdoor Photography, and Nature Vision. My debut exhibition, Finding Light, was viewed by an estimated 20,000 people at Plas Glyn y Weddw, one of Wales’ oldest and most prestigious galleries, in 2025.
My photography journey began in 2018 during a period of personal reflection and initiatory transition into mature masculinity following a heartbreak that awakened me to my grief. What started as a simple afternoon walk to Pistyll Rhaeadr with a camera became a transformative experience that completely transformed my outlook on life, leading to deep healing, personal growth, and the unearthing of a profound purpose. This lived experience and my resulting embodied understanding of the art of photography's power to heal and invoke spiritual transformation shape every aspect of my approach to tuition.
My approach isn’t just about teaching technical skill; it’s about discovering how you see the world, helping you to express your unique self through the lens of your camera, and walking alongside you as you excavate your inner landscape to unearth the creative voice that might be buried beneath years of projections and societal conditioning.
About My Love of the Sacred Welsh Landscape
I found sanctuary in the hills and valleys of Wales following a decade of turbulence throughout my formative years. The gnarled oak trees and silver birch in Wales’ beautiful and enchanting ancient woodland have played the roles of father, best friend, and therapist for me over the past few years, and I specialise in translating my feelings towards the landscape into photographs, weaving them with words to tell personal stories of healing and transformation.
During the retreat, I will guide you to some of the magical and mystical woodlands and lakes that have played a significant role in my journey towards a life of creativity and deep healing. As you walk beneath the ancient trees and beside the silent waters of Snowdonia (Eryri), you can expect plenty of stories of my own, as well as open and honest conversation about life, light, and landscape that will aid you in your quest to tell your own stories through the art of photography.
