Photography Tuition that Meets You Where You Are
You have probably arrived here with a particular question.
For some, that question will be about the camera itself. The dials and menus still confuse you even after years of trying to learn their foreign language. You have watched the tutorials and read the guides; you have tried everything; and still, you’re uncertain about the ‘‘right’’ exposure. Composition feels like guesswork, and the joy of the practice has been lost to the weight of overthinking. You sense that, with the right foundations, the camera could finally allow you to express the joy and beauty you hold inside.
For others, the question is much deeper. The camera is no longer an obstacle to overcome. You understand exposure, composition, and the technical principles; perhaps you’d even say you were fluent in the language of technique. And yet, when you look honestly at your portfolio, you feel an increasing emptiness inside. The photographs are technically correct. Perhaps even perfect. But they are missing something. They don’t feel like yours. You sense that there is something within that is wanting to emerge; a story only you can tell, and that with the right guidance, you could finally begin to give a voice to those feelings.
My private tuition offers slow, attentive, unhurried hours of bespoke tuition, shaped entirely around your particular question, in the open air and in the safe embrace of Mother Nature.
Over the past five years, I have walked alongside more than 200 photographers on their own creative journeys. I would be glad to offer my hand and walk alongside you.
There is a path here for both questions; two paths, in fact. You can find yours below.

“Brad’s style of teaching is that of a coach that wants to help you get the best out of your own vision and art. This is not about telling you what to do, it is about asking you to think about why you are taking that particular picture and how you might improve it. This is for those who really want to take their photography to a new level of meaning and thinking. I made me realise that the most important part of the experience is to be out in nature and to try and use my photography to share the benefits of how this makes me feel.’’

‘‘Brad really helped me understand my camera and its settings better. I have owned my camera for a number of years, but I had never really known how to use it to its full potential. Brad explained really clearly how to change certain aspects of my camera’s settings, which helped me achieve a much better quality of photograph. I now have the confidence to use my camera to take the style of photos that I have always wanted to.’’

‘‘It was an incredibly productive experience. Brad had done his homework and put a lot of effort into creating a custom plan that perfectly matched my shooting style and workflow. What impressed me most was his decision to leave his own camera behind, which allowed him to focus entirely on my work. This is something I hadn’t seen before, and it made a significant difference. He constantly encouraged me to think about what I was doing, how and why, pushing me to explore different perspectives and techniques. The day was well-structured yet flexible, and I appreciated the emphasis on practical learning. It was a valuable session that has left a lasting impact on my photography.

How this Work Could Help You
Whatever path you choose, the time we spend together is designed to leave a lasting mark on the way you see and create.
I.
Break Through Creative Barriers
Whether you are wrestling with camera settings that seem to work against you, compositions that feel flat, or the sense that your photographs hold a deeper story you cannot yet tell, our time together will help you identify and gently move beyond the obstacles holding back your full expression.
Many photographers find themselves technically competent but emotionally disconnected from their work. The bridge between the two is at the heart of what we explore.
II.
Develop Your Unique Voice
In a world saturated with photographs, discovering what makes your perspective genuinely yours is both rare, refreshing, and essential.
Through a patient, listening approach, you will learn to recognise the subjects, light, and compositions that authentically resonate with you, rather than imitating the work of other photographers. This often reveals artistic directions you had not yet considered; work that feels personal, meaningful, and unmistakably yours, giving you a unique standpoint in a world of unoriginal AI ‘‘art’’.
III.
Build Confidence & Self-Belief in the Field
Many photographers struggle with decision-making in the moment: which settings to use, where to stand, what to compose, and when to release the shutter to create that special photograph.
Field-based photography tuition develops your intuitive understanding of light, weather, and the landscape, turning uncertainty into quiet confidence and decisiveness. You will learn to read a place, anticipate the photograph that is waiting to reveal itself to your patient eyes, and adapt to changing conditions with assurance.
IV.
Forge a Deeper Connection
Perhaps most importantly, this work forges a profound connection between you, your camera, the natural world, and your deeper, most authentic self.
The approach encourages mindful observation and emotional engagement with the landscape, moving beyond documentation of a place or time toward the realms of genuine artistic self-expression. For many, photography becomes a form of mindfulness and meditation, a way of processing experience, and a path to meaning in everyday moments.
V.
Long-Term Creative Development
Unlike standard workshops that offer temporary inspiration, this work is designed to build lasting skills and shift perspectives; to open new ways of thinking about photography that remain with you long after our day together has ended.
The combination of technical grounding, personal and artistic development, and ongoing support after our session creates a foundation for continued growth, year after year. You’ll also be invited to join the Finding Light Creative Academy, a dedicated educational membership platform and community for sustained development.
Where Tuition Takes Place
My familiar landscapes are Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park and the quieter, lesser-known corners of Mid Wales: woodlands, mountain lakes, rivers, and waterfalls that I have walked over and over, in every season, for the better part of a decade.
I will gladly bring you to the places that have shaped me, or, if you prefer, take you somewhere of your own choosing. Tuition is available throughout the United Kingdom by arrangement, and my door to international travel is also open for those who may wish to learn in the comfort of their home landscapes.
What matters is that we find the right place for the work we are doing. somewhere quiet enough for the kind of attention this bespoke tuition asks of both of us.
About Your Tutor & How I Teach
My role, more than anything, is to listen. I teach as a coach rather than an instructor, asking thoughtful questions rather than dictating rules, helping you arrive at your own answers rather than imposing mine. Photographers often describe my approach as warm, patient, and unhurried; a safe, non-judgemental space in which to think out loud, experiment, and make mistakes that lead to learning.
I will often leave my own camera behind on our days together, so that my full attention can be with you and your work. Where helpful, I will bring it for demonstration, but only when it genuinely serves your learning, never to make a show of my own photography.
I am an internationally published fine art photographer and nature writer; my work has appeared in On Landscape, Outdoor Photography, Nature Vision, International Therapist, and Welsh Country. My debut Finding Light exhibition was held at Plas Glyn y Weddw, the oldest gallery in Wales, and was seen by an estimated 20,000 people across seven weeks. But what qualifies me to teach you is not the credentials; it is the slow, attentive way I have learnt to walk this path beside 200 others, and my willingness to walk it alongside you.
See what other Photographers are Saying:
‘‘I was a little apprehensive beforehand: going on my own, feeling out of practice, and knowing my camera skills aren’t exactly great. But I needn’t have worried. Brad’s patience, kindness, and skill put me at ease straight away. I loved the encouragement to be present in nature, to really take in where we were and what was around us, to notice what we’re drawn to and give it a story. I came home feeling calmer, refreshed, and full of positive energy. It was so good to step away, slow down, and reconnect with my photography. I'm excited to continue my journey.’’

An invitation to journey deeper

‘‘I have spent 3 days in total working with Brad, and it has been the most rewarding journey, from the first phone call to our latest workshop. Brad’s commitment to his clients is not bound by time or energy, for it was in abundance. I went with an open mind, heart, and a desire to grow as a photographer, and he has given me the foundations to move forward with confidence. His energy, passion, enthusiasm, and insightfulness will, if you let it, propel you forward on a journey of self-discovery.’’
The way forward is simple, considered, and without pressure: six steps from your first interest in tuition to the work we will do together in the landscape.

FAQ’S
-
Foundations of Photography is designed for beginners — those still becoming familiar with their camera's settings, manual mode, and the basic principles of landscape composition. It is the place to begin if you are new to photography, or returning to it after time away.
Five Pillars is for those who already have strong technical knowledge and now wish to develop their artistic vision, discover their creative voice, and use the camera as a tool for healing and self-expression. Technical instruction is minimal; the focus is on the art of seeing.
-
If you find yourself asking "what settings should I use?" or "how does my camera work?", then Foundations of Photography is the place to begin.
If you find yourself asking "why do my photographs feel flat?" or "how do I develop my own voice?" or "how can photography help me grow personally?", then Learning to See Again is most likely your path.
If you are uncertain, our discovery call is the simplest way to find out. I will help you decide based on your current skills and what you most want to achieve.
-
Every session is bespoke and shaped around your particular goals. A typical day might include some or all of: a pre-session conversation to understand your aims; in-field practical photography at carefully chosen locations; personalised feedback on your compositions and approach; technical guidance or artistic development (depending on your path); contemplative conversations about photography's place in your life; creative exercises to expand your seeing; a portfolio review if you wish to bring existing work; and post-session support to carry the work forward.
The exact shape depends entirely on where you are in your journey, and what you need most.

I have intimate knowledge of Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park and the quieter, lesser-known corners of Mid Wales. We can spend the day in woodland, by mountain lakes, on rivers, or among waterfalls; wherever feels right for what you are exploring.
Alternatively, I am happy to come to a location of your choosing. I am available for bespoke arrangements throughout the United Kingdom, and increasingly internationally. Please download the relevant brochure for further detail.
-
Tuition is offered as half-days or full-days as standard. For those new to photography, short introductory sessions can also be arranged.
Multiple sessions across days, weekends, or longer arrangements are warmly welcomed, and for some, are exactly the right way to ensure their development. We can discuss the right rhythm for you on our discovery call.
-
Landscape photography is, in many ways, the art of embracing what the weather offers. Tuition will go ahead unless conditions become genuinely dangerous, in which case an alternative date will be arranged. Mist, drizzle, snow, and shifting light are not obstacles to our work; they are often the gift of it.

Yes, this is one of the deepest dimensions of my work. Photography transformed my own life during a period of considerable difficulty, and I now walk alongside others on similar journeys of healing and self-discovery.
The Learning to See Again path, in particular, explicitly holds space for this work: processing emotions, healing past wounds, cultivating presence, finding purpose, and forging a deeper connection with the natural world. I hold this work with care, and meet whatever arises with compassion and without judgment.
