Photographing with Purpose: A Journey of Self-Discovery Through the Art of Landscape Photography

A Transformative, Bespoke Mentoring Experience with Internationally-Published Professional Photographer and Nature Writer, Brad Carr

Everyone has a story inside that is waiting to be told. I exist to help you tell yours.

If you have felt the unrelenting pull to create something meaningful and leave a legacy behind, then, perhaps, like me, you have known what it is like to long to create something more than an empty picture on a screen, and to wander alone in solitude across ancient landscapes in pursuit of the photograph and the purpose that the creative quest provides.

This mentoring program has been designed for landscape & Nature photographers who are searching for that ‘something’ — those curious souls who know they have gold buried deep inside the walls of their hearts; those who are ready to relentlessly excavate their internal landscape and journey into their heart to discover it.

This is a call to arms for the sensitive souls, the purpose-seekers, the truthtellers — those who wish to make a difference in the world through their creativity.

Photographing with Purpose isn’t just about ‘capturing’ better photographs; it’s about becoming more of who you truly are through the process of creating.

What People Say About My Mentoring & Tuition Services:

  • GISDA

We just wanted to say a huge thank you to Brad for the incredible series of sessions he delivered for us at GISDA. The sessions were absolutely amazing – truly something special.

Brad created such a safe, supportive space with a strong focus on self-expression. He brought out the best in the young people, encouraging them to open up, share, and support each other in a way that was genuinely beautiful to witness. His approach was warm, respectful, and inspiring, and it was clear that the young people felt completely comfortable in his presence.

What stood out most was how naturally Brad built trust – several of the young people even mentioned how much they appreciated the atmosphere he created, and how easy it was to express themselves honestly around him.

We can’t recommend Brad enough. These sessions would benefit just about anyone – the impact they’ve had on our group has been incredible, and we’re so grateful for the experience.

  • Alix, GISDA Workshop Attendee

‘‘I have learnt so much through these sessions, things about myself and the people around me that I never took notice of.  I have also been pulled closer and closer to the beauty around me through every session.  You have given me an opportunity to grow in so many ways.  You've also given me a chance to practice my photography and my creative writing.  I never thought I'd be sitting here today with a book full of poems and songs, and a camera filled with not only beautiful pictures, but beautiful memories.’’

  • Allison Poole ★★★★★

What an amazing workshop. I’ve visited the area on numerous occasions, but never have I taken in all of its beauty.
Brad’s style of tuition is that of a teacher, if required, but more importantly as a coach making you think; ‘Why am I taking this photo?’ ‘How can I improve it?’
I came away from the day knowing more about my camera but the biggest takeaway was the realisation that photography really does make you stop, look and consider your surroundings.
Thanks to Brad, I’m itching to get back out in the great outdoors with my camera and look out for more photographic opportunities.

  • Ian Price ★★★★★

Brad’s style of teaching is that of a coach that wants to help you get the best out of your own vision and art. This is not about telling you what to do, it is about asking you to think about why you are taking that particular picture and how you might improve it. This is for those who really want to take their photography to a new level of meaning and thinking. I made me realise that the most important part of the experience is to be out in nature and to try and use my photography to share the benefits of how this makes me feel.

  • Joe Hadley ★★★★★

Brad was very open from the get-go. We discussed not just the technical and professional side of photography but everything in between. Brad asked just as many questions as he answered so it really felt like being out with a friend as much as a tutor. He was non-judgmental and encouraged me to embrace my style. On the technical side, we focused on finding the correct shutter speed and aperture, using angular perspective and zoom to bring attention to a certain subject and dealing with difficult lighting. I found all of this extremely useful and can immediately see a huge improvement in my own photographs.

Your Hero’s Journey Ahead

"The hero's journey is about the courage to seek the depths; the image of creative rebirth; the eternal cycle of change within us."

- Joseph Campbell, The Hero’s Journey

Your bespoke mentoring program will be built around the following steps, helping you to find your purpose and make more meaning in your work and life in general:

The Call to Create – Reawakening to your soul’s purpose: understanding your journey so far

Vision vs Voice – Discovering how you see, why you see this way, and understanding what you are saying with your creativity

Observe, Reflect, Respond – Photographing with your whole being — becoming a part of the landscape and using Nature as a mirror for self-understanding

Discovering Themes in Your Work – Increase self-understanding by finding your emotional fingerprint

The Voice Behind the Photograph – Naming, writing, and expressing through words (spoken or written)

Sharing with Integrity – Letting your work be seen whilst standing grounded in your Truth

Evolving Purpose – Embracing growth and change in your photography and within yourself

The Return with Elixir – Bring your truth back into the world. Finding the courage to share your deeper message.

‘‘In a world quickly becoming overrun by data and machines – machines that can now apparently ‘create’ art – maybe it is time we doubled down on what makes us human. That means excavating and exploring the worlds we have kept hidden inside our fragile hearts for so long.’’

- Brad Carr, Photographing Feelings

Creative work is not about pleasing algorithms or appeasing judges; it is about awakening to our true, deeper, spiritual nature. It is about using creativity as a healing force; as a tool for personal growth and transformation. It is about connecting with the natural world and, more importantly, with the deepest, most authentic and vulnerable part of yourself. If my words resonate with you, then you are in the right place.

Let’s walk this path together.

About Me, Brad Carr

Hello! I’m Brad Carr, and I am a professional landscape & Nature photographer, writer, and creative mentor currently living in a small town in Mid Wales called Welshpool. I have been photographing for over seven years, and establishing my photography business over the past four of those.

I have faced my fair share of adversity throughout my life so far. I grew up in a violent and abusive home, navigating my way through eleven long and hard years with the support of my family beside me. I somehow made it through those dark early years relatively unscathed — bar some undiagnosed CPTSD that crops up from time to time. I occasionally have flashbacks and uncomfortable memories arise of traumatic events from my turbulent childhood. Photography has been instrumental for me on my healing journey, and the ancient oaks and silver birch trees have been like my father, best friend, and therapist over the past seven years.

I have somehow found myself ‘here’, in the position of proud, purpose-driven business owner, having been the ‘featured photographer’ in some of the most reputable landscape photography magazines in the world, having publications of essays and photographs in the same spaces, and having shared my story of transformation on some of the biggest photography podcasts in the world. Oh, and my photographs and accompanying writing have been exhibited in Wales’ oldest gallery, Plas Glyn y Weddw, being seen by an estimated 20,000 people throughout the seven-week showing.

My creative journey — as well as the business one — has been an incredibly rewarding and eye-opening journey so far. I have learnt so much along my way, and I am proud and honoured to find myself in a position where I can give back to others through private tuition and bespoke mentoring programs after a period of rapid and intensive personal and professional growth.

If you feel called to learn more about me or work with me on a long-term basis, I would love to hear about you and your story to find out whether I can be the person to help you.
