The Photographer’s Foundations Programme

A Transformative Twelve-Month Mentoring Journey

Learn the fundamentals of landscape photography so you can tell powerful visual stories with your camera through this exciting new initiative led by internationally recognised fine art landscape photographer and Nature writer Brad Carr.

From £1,995

Perhaps you picked up a camera with genuine intention. You sensed that there was something in photography that was calling you: a way of seeing the world that felt entirely your own, if only you could find that unique artistic vision.

Maybe you understand the basics. Maybe you know what aperture means, and what the shutter speed setting does. You might have experimented with semi-automatic modes. But the moment someone asks you to switch to full manual, you freeze.

And beyond the technical, there is a bigger question you have not yet had the time and space to sit with: what kind of photographer do you actually want to become?

Perhaps you’ve watched countless tutorials online and read every blog you could find, yet something still feels missing. The gap between knowing how a camera works and knowing what you want to say with it can feel enormous — and deeply isolating when you’re navigating it alone.

You are not alone in feeling this way. And you are not behind. You simply need a blueprint for something that deserves to be built with intention and purpose.

I Understand Because I Have Stood in Your Shoes

My own photography journey began in 2018 during a period of soul-searching and transition. I picked up a camera and walked out into the Welsh landscape with no real idea of what I was doing or where it would lead. What I had was a longing for something more — a feeling, a sense that there was a deeper purpose waiting to be unearthed.

I didn’t know how to use my camera properly. I didn’t know what I wanted to say with it. And I had no one to guide me through the huge gap that existed between the two. I learned the hard way: through trial and error, by reading blogs, watching videos, and by spending long hours in landscapes that gradually taught me things I could not have found in any manual.

It took years to build what this programme is designed to give you in twelve months.

That journey changed my life completely — not just as a photographer, but as a person. It led to significant healing, a deepened sense of belonging and purpose, and work I am genuinely proud to put into the world.

What this Journey has Led to:

My Finding Light exhibition has been viewed by an estimated 20,000 people across Wales. My writing and photography have been published internationally in On Landscape, Outdoor Photography, Nature Vision, and International Therapist magazines. I’ve spoken to well over a thousand people and shared my story on some of the most respected landscape photography platforms in the world. I’ve guided over 150 photographers through private tuition, group workshops, and mentoring programmes, and evolved my own teaching philosophy along the way.

But none of that is why I am the right person to guide you.

I am the right person because I remember — clearly and honestly — what it felt like to be exactly where you are. And because everything I teach comes from the landscape itself, and from almost a decade of genuinely living and embodying this practice.

See what other Photographers are Saying:

“Brad is as wonderful a teacher as he is a photographer. I have had both a one-to-one lesson and a workshop with Brad, where I experienced consistent attention, personalised feedback, and a friendly atmosphere. Brad’s philosophy and dedication to photography are admirable, and I couldn’t recommend him enough if you’re thinking of developing your landscape photography.”

What Awaits You on the Other Side

Complete Command of Your Camera

Manual mode will no longer be a source of hesitation. You will understand the exposure triangle not as abstract theory but as a creative language — one you speak fluently, instinctively, and in service of the image you are trying to make.

A Coherent Body of Creative Work

Not a collection of individual images, but a body of work that holds together — unified by theme, visual language, and creative intent. A body of work that says something only you could say.

An Intuitive Eye for Composition

Balance, texture, light, structure, symmetry — these will cease to be principles you consciously check against and become instincts you naturally reach for. You will learn to see photographs before you make them.

A Professional Identity and Voice that Serves Your Purpose

An artist’s statement that sounds like you. A professional biography. The ability to write and talk about your work with clarity and conviction — whether you are approaching a gallery, pitching to an editor, or simply describing what you do to your audience.

A Clearer Sense of Your Creative Purpose

You will begin to understand — in your own words — why you make photographs and what you are trying to express through them. That clarity changes everything: how you shoot, how you edit, and how you talk about your work.

Confidence to Share Your Work and be Seen

You will know how to approach gallery curators, magazine editors, and podcast hosts — and you will have the written materials to do so compellingly. By Month Twelve, you will already have begun stepping out into the world to be seen.

The programme brochure includes detailed month-by-month content, investment information, and everything you need to decide whether this journey is right for you.

See what other Photographers are Saying:

“Brad helped me to understand my camera’s various features; his explanations were clear and easy to understand. He was approachable and attentive. I don’t have an expensive camera, but I’m really happy with the images I created throughout. It’s opened my eyes to what I can achieve with it, and I’m looking forward to putting some of my newfound knowledge into practice.”

Your Steps to Creative Transformation

Beginning is often the hardest part. I’ve made the process as simple and unhurried as the mentoring itself.

Step One: Download the Programme Brochure

Take the time to read through everything the programme offers — the structure, the philosophy, the month-by-month journey, and what’s included in your investment. Let it sit with you. There is no rush.

Step Two: Book Your Free Discovery Call

When you’re ready, book a FREE Introductory Advice Call — by phone or Zoom, at a time that suits you. We’ll talk openly about where you are in your photography, what you’re hoping to build, and what the year might look like if we worked together. There is no pressure and no obligation to sign up. At the very least, use this call as an opportunity to seek advice from someone who’s walked the creative path.

Step Three: Begin Your Twelve-Month Journey

If it feels right for both of us, we finalise dates, you complete your onboarding form, and we begin. From that moment, you have a guide beside you — someone who has walked this path; who remembers what the beginning feels like; and who is genuinely invested in helping you build something of your own that you are proud of.

Are you ready to take those courageous first steps on your transformational creative journey?

The Lifechanging Journey Ahead

PHASE ONE

| Months 1-4

Foundation — Understanding Your Camera and the Language of Light

We begin with the essentials: the living tools of creative expression. You will take full command of manual mode, learn to read and work with natural light, and build an intuitive understanding of compositional principles. You will learn the rules so that you know when to break them.

PHASE TWO

| Months 5-8

Vision — Finding Your Why and Building a Body of Work

With the technical foundations secure, we shift focus to creative intention — discovering what draws you to photography at a deeper level, identifying the themes that recur in your work, and beginning to build a coherent body of images that says something only you could say.

PHASE THREE

| Months 5-8

Purpose — Creative Identity and Your First Steps into the World

The final phase is where everything comes together. We explore what it means to photograph with genuine purpose, articulate your artistic identity in writing, and take practical steps into the wider world — approaching galleries, editors, and clients with confidence, clarity, and a fully developed sense of what you stand for as a photographer.

See what other Photographers are Saying:

“Brad was very open from the get-go. We discussed not just the technical and professional side of photography but everything in between. Brad asked just as many questions as he answered — it really felt like learning from a friend as much as a tutor. He was non-judgmental and encouraged me to embrace my style.”

Who is Photographing with Purpose™ for?

If you are a photographer who knows that passion alone is not enough—who is committed to the path and ready to build the craft, develop the vision, and discover the creative identity to match the ambition you already carry—this programme was designed for you.

It is not a course in the conventional sense. There are no pre-recorded videos, no generic modules, and no examinations. This is a deeply personal year of guided learning, built around you, your camera, your unique work, and your creative ambitions.

The camera is a tool to tell a story only you can tell. Before telling that story, you have to lay some unshakeable foundations.

See what other Photographers are Saying:

‘‘Brad’s style of teaching is that of a coach who wants to help you get the best out of your own vision and art. This is not about telling you what to do — it is about asking you to think about why you are taking that particular picture and how you might improve it. This is for those who really want to take their photography to a new level of meaning and thinking.”
